Secret Meals For Hungry Children

In August of 2022, through my class APR419: Concepting and Implementation, I worked with Alabama Credit Union’s (“ACU”) nonprofit organization called Secret Meals For Hungry Children. We had four months to plan an event for our real-world client that would raise awareness and funds for the organization, which aims to provide food to local schoolchildren who face food insecurity outside of school hours.

Time spent both in and outside of class was dedicated to preparing for the event, securing media coverage, sponsors, and a venue, as well as creating marketing deliverables and establishing a social media presence.

  • Created project proposals and deliverables, communication outlines, and outreach pieces for the Secret Meals event, raising $4,792.37

  • Collaborated with a ten-person team to overcome event planning challenges, successfully executing the 'Taste of Tuscaloosa' event

  • Individually responsible for securing all sponsors and partners (a total of 30) for the event, relying on key local markets and communications tactics

  • Pitched the cause to local media channels, resulting in two newspaper articles and local news channel coverage about the event
